I'm writing this the day after my Osteo wreaked his wrath on my troubled back, neck, hips and ankles... (feel old today)
Needless to say that after being pulled and stretched into very strange shapes, and then popped with remarkable sounds (akin to snooker balls hitting each other) I am feeling sore and reflective on what was a frustrating week of training.
In chatting to Daren (my Osteo) - https://www.posturedynamics.co.uk/ he confirmed my suspicion that my back and neck issues are stemming from both the changes brought about by the body slowly rebalancing itself, and the pounding I'm giving it on my long runs. He commented that even with the best rolling, stretching, etc routines there are times when you need some additional help to pop things back to where they should be. And holy shit did he pop them.
Today I feel like I've been trampled by a horse, but also feel that things are back in place. This means it's a couple of days off training to let the body get back to normal. This is not so bad as I am tapering the training down anyway before I run 50km in 10 days time (my first Ultra Run!). My Aim is to put in a 6K run either Thur/Fri and then a 20km run at the weekend. Then, in the week leading up only a very light recovery run, with some easy rolling and stretching in the days leading up to next Saturday.
Week 11 Training
Generally I eased up as the fast 25km run I did hit my back hard and decided wise to rest a couple of days before running again. The runs were not great but I did them anyway, though at the weekend I ended up walking most of the 20km due to severe back pain. Shit, but more miles.
Monday:
- Rest Day / Stretching / calf rehab work
Tues
- Rest Day / Stretching / calf rehab work
Wed
- 5km MAF Zone run
Thurs
- Rest Day /
Fri
- 3km MAF Zone run (cut short as back was too painful)
Sat
- Rest day (and a grateful back massage as things were pretty bad there)
Sun
- 20km mostly walking
Mostly a poor training week but listened to my body (in the end) and lined up treatment as quickly as possible.
Fat loss progress
Starting Weight: 112kg
Wk 7 Weigh-in: 98.8Kg!
Weight Lost = 13.2kg (29Ibs) in 81 days (that's two stone!)
Remaining weight to lose = 8.8Kg
I've noticed a slow decline in rate of fat loss, but that might be due to the lighter training week. I'm still on track to reach target in time.
I've 8 weeks left to shift 9kg. It's possible, and I certainly will be pretty damn close by the time I get to the starting line (and likely to have broken it by the time I finish the event itself as I'll drop 1-2kg for sure during that).
I'm not worrying too much about that though. Even getting close will be remarkable feat in the time it's taken. I'm fat adapted for sure right now and look forward to putting some rocket fuel carbs into me just before I tackle the 50km next week. I will write about my approach to that in the next post though...
Thanks for reading
