First of all, to my three followers, it's been a while and my apologies. In january I was all 'happy puppy' and raring to go, and then life happened. A mix of sorting injuries, working on the business, and dealing with the imbecilic excuse that is my son's school.
It's been a non stop shitfest of firefighting, but the only way out is through, so I did what I always do and just put one foot in front of the other.
And I am coming out the other side. somewhere in my madness along the way, I also booked myself into a Lake District 50Km ultramarathon as a warm up / precursor training challenge ahead of Iceland in July.
This time around I'm taking it much easier on myself than I have in previous years. I'm running twice a week and doing a long walk. I'll be doing these challenges as mostly hiking rather than running as I'd like to enjoy myself rather than have to simply suffer as best as possible to get to the other side. This year I'm good with that. I've had MANY injury issues the last few years so have set out to be a bit kinder to myself for a while. Rehab
I signed up with a long term hip and glute issue since doing the 300km. But progress has been made. The rehab is working and I'm still able to train largely the way I intended. A bit of strength and mobility, a faster run, and easier run and a longer time on feet hike have been making up my weeks. I'm doing this by feel more than science at the moment. But can feel improvements. I've been focusing less on data for now as it'd only make me feel bad comparing it to the shape I got into ahead of the Hebrides challenge I did.
Diet
Body shape is changing (that'll be the weights' and i did put a few pounds on through feb and march, but things are now moving the right direction. I'm definitely stronger, and have recently switched around the way I eat to be much more conscious about flattening my glucose spikes (I'm very insulin resistant so need to turn that around)
All in all I'm simply taking step by step progress and building the base foundations all over again.
These next two challenges are more about the experience, and loving the journey. It's great for my spirit and want to make sure it's also good for my body. It's a bit of a 'transition and put things right' kind of year, and on the balance of things I'm quite happy with where I am at the moment.
I'll check in in a few weeks, but in the meantime, thanks for reading...
